Bibliotherapy
Promoting Connectedness and Well-Being Through Guided Reading Groups
How does it work?
Enjoy a healthy distraction to learn, laugh, and connect with others, using selected readings as conversation starters.
During the session, the facilitator reads a variety of texts centred on a theme, and participants can join the conversation or simply listen as others share their thoughts.
The positive atmosphere, coupled with the opportunity to focus on engaging readings and discussions, fosters a sense of well-being and can strengthen participants’ resilience and hopefulness even in challenging times.

Testimonials
We have been so fortunate at SafeHope Home to have Kimberley Black deliver a wonderful program biweekly called Bibliotherapy. Kimberley seems to know exactly how to respond to our women in the trauma program, and they always excited to see her back. Her approach is gentle, relaxed, and ever so kind. She brings a great range of knowledge, humour, and an energetic personality to her work. I was so inspired by her work; I took her training on bibliotherapy myself. Keep up the good work Kimberley, the world needs you.

I have had the privilege of experiencing Bibliotherapy with Kimberley Black, and it has been nothing short of transformative. For the past year, Kimberley has been leading group Bibliotherapy sessions for our clients, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her sessions to anyone seeking to enrich their healing journey.
Kimberley is an engaging speaker and a compassionate, attentive listener who creates a safe, supportive space for reflection and growth. Through her thoughtful selection of topics each session, she sparks meaningful discussions that challenge and inspire clients to connect with their inner strengths and resilience. The beauty of Kimberley’s sessions lies not only in her ability to foster individual growth, but also in the sense of connection and community that emerges within the group. Participants feel seen, heard, and understood, building supportive relationships with others on similar journeys.
Kimberley’s love for language shines through as she encourages open, honest conversations that help clients move forward with newfound clarity and confidence. Kimberley’s wisdom and insight empower individuals to recognize their own resilience, fostering both personal healing and a sense of collective strength in every session.

Bibliotherapy has been a unique and beneficial addition to our Life Skills programming here at the YWCA Durham, and Kimberley’s love of literature has greatly impacted the lives of the women we serve. Her open and engaging nature has drawn them to her groups repeatedly, fostering an environment of honest reflection, deep thought, and needed connection. Who she is, and the experiences she has lived give her a perspective women both respect and connect with. Our women look forward to her monthly workshops and are always eager to participate in any topic.
